We are delighted to announce we will host the Inaugural National Vision Sports Inclusion Games at Trinity College on Friday 12 October 2018. Our main sponsor for the Games is media sports outlet OFFTHEBALL.

The Vision Sports Inclusion Games will bring able-bodied and vision impaired people together for a day of sport and friendship building, with specific children and youth emphasis.

300 participants will join us at Trinity College as we share in the skills of running, guide running, swimming, guide swimming, cycling (pilots and stokers). There’ll be opportunities to play mixed tennis, football and golf (with a variety of formats involving able-bodied and vision impaired participants.

The Inclusion Games will draw from primary, post-primary and third level institutions. While the focus will be on the young members in other age groups will be welcome to attend.

Vision Sports National Development Officer Joe Geraghty says “I think I’m more excited about hosting this event than I was for our first May Games four decades ago. It will be truly brilliant to bring hundreds of young people together to test themselves in all our core sports on the premier Trinity College campus.”

The world’s fastest Paralympian Jason Smyth will be National Vision Sports Inclusion Games Ambassador. Speaking about the event Jason says, “we had been looking into doing an event around children and youth for a few years now. However, we just couldn’t find the funds. We are grateful that donors have come on board to kick this off.

“I think the Games will be the launchpad to hosting similar regional events throughout the year with local schools and colleges. Our aim is to build awareness of sport for vision impaired people to a level. Within four years we aim to increase participation by blind and vision impaired children and youth by 50%.”

The Inaugural National Vision Sports Inclusion Games at Trinity College will take place on Friday 12 October 2018 from 9.30am until 2.30pm. Entry is FREE. However, large group entries are closed with limited spaces for small groups or individuals.
