Ian McKinley joins Vision Sports Ireland for Shared Island Initiative
Vision Sports Ireland are delighted to welcome former international rugby player Ian McKinley to the team as part of an exciting partnership with RNIB. The government’s Shared Island initiative aims to harness the full potential of the Good Friday Agreement to enhance cooperation, connection and mutual understanding on the island and engage with all communities and traditions to build consensus around a shared future. Over the coming months Ian will collaborate with key stakeholders in Northern Ireland to ascertain opportunities for blind and vision impaired people to engage in physical activity and sport.
Ian stated “I am delighted to have started this new initiative in partnership with the RNIB. From personal experience of becoming visually impaired, it can feel like a lonely place. However, I am constantly inspired by the support, creativity and resilience of the people within the visually impaired and blind community. I look forward to working closely with our friends in Northern Ireland. Together we can challenge the barriers, promote abilities and create equal opportunity for people through sport.”
