Vision Sports Ireland is delighted to announce the appointment of five-time Gold winning Paralympic champion Jason Smyth ‘the fastest Paralympian on the planet’ to its board of management. Jason joins the board as Director of Strategy and Development.

Welcoming the appointment Vision Sports Ireland chairman Joe Geraghty said: “Jason is an inspirational athlete for all people aspiring to sporting achievement. He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge that will be invaluable to Vision Sports Ireland and our members. We are delighted to have him join the board and look forward to working with him to further develop sporting opportunities at all levels for people with vision impairment in Ireland.”

In accepting this appointment, Jason Smyth said: “I have been involved with Vision Sports Ireland for many years and have always admired the effectiveness with which they have facilitated sporting opportunities for those with visual impairment. I look forward to working with the board in further building upon the framework that has been put in place and opening up the opportunity for every visually impaired person in Ireland to take part in sport, no matter what their ability or level is.”

Jason Smyth, who originally became a member of Vision Sports Ireland in 2005, holds the World Record in the T13 100m and 200m. He made headlines after a world record performance winning Gold at 100m and 200m at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London for the second consecutive time. He continued his success when he claimed his third consecutive Gold in the T13 100m event in Rio.
