Tandem Pilot Training Course Bray

Vision Sports Ireland in partnership with Cycling Ireland, hosted a Tandem Pilot Training course on Saturday, 19th November supported by Bray Wheelers Cycling Club.

Congratulations to our new tandem pilot volunteers who successfully completed last weekend’s workshop. We are hugely encouraged by the overwhelming uptake in our recently launched course, which aims to create a National Register of Tandem Pilot Volunteers and increase tandem cycling opportunities for people who are blind, or vision impaired across Ireland.

After our successful launch and roll out of the tandem pilot training course in 2022, we aim to broaden our reach and increase training opportunities across the island of Ireland in 2023 to include courses in all four provinces.

The course consists of two parts, an online theory workshop and an in person practical workshop. The online theory workshop equips attendees with the knowledge on the various types of vision impairment, basic sighted guide techniques, importance of communication and leadership, and preparation for the in person practical workshop.

While the in person practical workshop binges the knowledge and skills together in a safe and engaging environment to practice and develop tandem piloting skills.
